Diversity and social justice are cornerstones of life at Cross. With members from all over the city and beyond, we intentionally reach out to those in different walks of life. Over the years, many of our ministries have grown into some of Milwaukee’s best-known non-profits, allowing us to nurture new ministries. We feel it is important to serve those among us in need, wherever they are in their journey.
MLK 2020 ALL-A-THON
07/18/2020; 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Where: Outside Cross Lutheran,
Due to the current pandemic the traditional MLK All-A-Thon will not be held this year. This year each participating congregation will be holding their own All-A-Thon events.
Cross participants we will be running, walking, biking, skateboarding, whatever you want to do around our entire city block (16th to Walnut, 17thto Vine) right here at Cross. We are physical distancing (folks from within the same family can choose their own distancing) and we will provide mask to those who need them. If you don’t feel comfortable walking how about sitting in the shade around the garden or on the lawn or in your car cheering on the participants.
You are all invited to participate in any way you are comfortable. Please call the office, 414-344-1746) and register to participate and let us know your size for a T-Shirt, see the pictures attached. The registration fee of $15.00 includes a special T-shirt, with a quote from Dr. King, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
Those applying for a scholarship are asked to secure sponsors, to raise funds for the MLK Scholarships, that will be awarded on Sun., Jan. 10, 2021. Scholarship applicants are expected to raise $200 from sponsors.
The MLK Scholarship Coalition, currently comprised of 10 congregations, has sponsored the MLK Scholarship All-A-Thon annually since 1982.
Healing mind, body and spirit — it all comes together in our Bread of Healing Empowerment Ministry (BOHEM). From a weekly interactive bible study to a hot meal, from wellness and AODA sessions to opportunities to experience community, Cross’ BOHEM serves hundreds of individuals every week.
We believe food is one of the core rights of all individuals. Unfortunately, food insecurity is all too common. That’s why our community garden, free meal and food pantry are core programs at Cross.
Do you hate the fact that Sunday mornings at 10AM are among the most segregated times in America? So do we! No matter your race, socio-economic statues, family structure or sexual orientation, you’re welcome. No, it’s more than that: We invite you to fully participate in every aspect of life at Cross.
