First-Time Visitor?

Will this be your first time visiting Cross Lutheran Church?

Here are a few things about our service that will make you feel more “in-the-know“.

Greeter’s Table

Stop by the Greeter’s Table just inside the Sanctuary. Please take a moment to let us know who you are and put on a name tag, so the Pastor and others can better welcome you during your visit.

Communion

Communion is open to all baptized Christians who believe in Jesus Christ. Certain church staff and participants receive communion first, then the congregation will be invited up by pew. Red is wine; white is grape juice. If you’re unable to get around easily, wait in your pew. Get an usher’s attention and, when one of the lines is done, communion will be brought to you.

KIDS: Activities, the Children’s Sermon & Moving Around

Fairly early in the service is the Children’s Sermon. All children are welcome to come forward; if they’re nervous, a family member can sit with them. Children generally stay through the entire service. They can work on activities or even read as long as they stay relatively quiet. (No games with noise, please.)  If you have a fussy child, there’s also a nursery area in the back on the pulpit side where you can take your children and still hear the service. Don’t worry: We won’t mind if you move around during the service.

“Trespasses” or “Debts”?

During the Lord’s Prayer, we say “trespasses.”  We also rise and hold hands with those around us.

Three Hymnals

We use three different hymnals, indicated by initials next to the number. TFBF #135 is in the burgundy “This Far By Faith,” LMGM #223 is in the mosaic “Lead Me, Guide Me” and LBW #15 is in the green “Lutheran Book of Worship.”

Sharing of the Peace

Sharing of the Peace is held at the end of the service. Please join in! We tend to hug, but if you’d rather not, no worries! Just hold out a hand for a friendly handshake.

We May Be Lutherans, But…

A liberating gospel message may lead to the spirit breaking in during service. Don’t be surprised if you hear the occasional “Amen!” and “Praise the Lord!” during the service.  If the spirit moves you, join in. Sitting quietly is okay, too–but don’t be surprised if the Pastor encourages participation!
